Moose (Alces alces) are the largest member of the deer family and are native to boreal and mixed deciduous forests in the northern hemisphere; they are unique among the deer family because they are solitary and do not form herds. Although they are generally docile animals, their poor eyesight leads them to become alarmed easily, and for that reason they can be quite dangerous if approached too closely. This young female moose was grazing on aquatic vegetation in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.
